A 31-year-old man identified as Chukwuemeka Destiny is currently in police custody in Delta State for allegedly orchestrating the kidnapping of his aunt, the woman who raised him for ten years. The suspect was paraded by the police, with spokesperson SP Bright Edafe detailing the disturbing nature of the case.

According to Edafe, the victim took Destiny into her care when he was five years old and provided for him for the following decade, including supporting his education. It was revealed that Destiny recently returned to his aunt's residence with the specific intention of planning her abduction.

Edafe highlighted this incident as an example of a troubling trend where individuals betray those who have shown them kindness and support. "All of a sudden something just came up to his mind that let me k!dnap my auntie who trained me, who saw me through school, and that was what he did," Edafe stated.

Chukwuemeka Destiny, the suspect arrested for allegedly planning to kidnap his aunt.

The plan involved making payments to individuals he believed were kidnappers. Destiny made an initial payment of N200,000, followed by a subsequent payment of N700,000. However, the scheme unraveled when the people he contacted were not actual abductors. Instead, they used Destiny as a lure, apprehended him, and handed him over to the police, thereby preventing the planned kidnapping.

"Unknown to him that the people he contacted were not kidnappers. They rather used him as bait, got him and handed him over to the police thereby saving the life of his auntie," Bright explained.

During questioning, the suspect confessed to his involvement, expressing remorse and attributing his actions to a lapse in judgment. "Sincerely speaking to you, I am guilty of what really happened. I don’t know what came over me. I can’t tell. It's the devil's work," he was quoted as saying.

The aunt, who is the sister of Destiny's mother, expressed her profound shock and sorrow upon learning of the plot. "I was shocked. Crying," she reportedly said, visibly distressed.

Despite their familial relationship, the aunt has called for the full application of the law on the suspect. The case is being further investigated by the Raiders squad of the Delta State Police Command.
