Man Arrested for Attempting to Smuggle Drugs in Food into Ibadan Prison

A visitor was apprehended while trying to transport suspected hard drugs concealed within cooked food into the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ibadan. The Nigerian Correctional Service has handed the suspect over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further action.

The Oyo State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has detained a visitor who attempted to smuggle suspected illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre located in Agodi, Ibadan.

In a statement released on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, Mr. Olanrewaju Anjorin, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, provided details regarding the incident.

According to Mr. Anjorin, the male visitor was intercepted during a routine security protocol at the entrance of the facility, which involved security checks on visitors and their belongings.

The suspect was reportedly visiting an inmate and was found concealing substances believed to be Colorado and hemp within cooked rice and pasta.

Mr. Anjorin mentioned that an investigation revealed contradictions in the visitor's reason for his visit, indicating a potential intentional attempt to avoid detection.

Following the discovery, the suspect was transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further inquiries and legal proceedings.

Additionally, Anjorin noted that Mr. Olusegun Osogun, the Controller of Corrections for the NCoS Oyo State Command, praised the officers for their alertness and professionalism, emphasizing the department's dedication to maintaining the security and integrity of all correctional facilities in the region.

The spokesperson urged the public to collaborate with the Correctional Service and avoid engaging in illegal activities.
