On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the Enugu State Police Command filed charges against Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, a 41-year-old social media user, at a Magistrate Court for alleged defamatory postings and cyberbullying on Facebook directed against Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the Enugu State Government (SSG).

According to a statement released by the police spokesperson, SP Daniel Nduke, investigations have confirmed that the accused, who uses the Facebook account name “Sen Chijinkem Ugwuanyi,” posted a misleading statement on January 15, 2026, falsely attributed to the SSG. This statement claimed that the SSG purportedly remarked, "Some people are meant to be used to win elections, while some are meant to be given appointments and political dividends." The post was accompanied by a photograph of the SSG.

The police spokesperson noted that the accused admitted to creating the post but could not provide any evidence to substantiate that the SSG had made such a comment. Consequently, he was remanded in a Correctional Centre while the case file was forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further legal advice, as mandated by the court.
