Authorities in Rivers State have detained an individual identified as Mr. Abuchi for allegedly murdering his spouse in the Amaji village of the Umuoyoro Community within Omuma Local Government Area.

Reports indicate that the tragic incident took place on Thursday, February 19, 2026, while the couple was at their farm in Amaji village.

According to a source who spoke to Punch, an argument erupted between the pair, during which the husband is said to have used a kitchen knife to fatally wound his wife, who was the mother of two children.

"The community became aware of the situation after the woman let out a loud scream, which attracted nearby villagers working in the area. They came to her aid, overpowered the man, and restrained him," the source recounted.

This incident has plunged the community into despair as residents grapple with the reasons behind the violent confrontation.

A security insider, who preferred to remain anonymous, revealed that the suspect claimed he was unaware of his actions during the tragic event.

Following the incident, the suspect was taken into custody by officials at the Eberi Police Division in Omuma LGA.

Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the police command, confirmed the developments to a media outlet on Friday, stating, "I can confirm that the suspect has been arrested and the Commissioner of Police has initiated a thorough investigation to ensure justice is promptly served."
