A man accused of being involved in the death of a teenage boy met a tragic fate at the hands of a mob in Keffi, Nasarawa State, where he was killed and his body set ablaze.

The individual, identified as Isma’ila Zaria, had formerly served as a guard at the Keffi Emirate Palace. Local residents attributed his death to alleged connections with the murder of a teenage boy named Aliyu Muhammadu Lawal, whose body was discovered in a pit on the grounds of a neighboring property.

Reports indicate that a local vigilante group had detained Zaria and took him to their office prior to the mob's intervention. Enraged citizens reportedly overpowered the vigilantes, destroying their office and executing Zaria before police could gain control of the situation.

Officers who arrived at the scene were also assaulted by the crowd, resulting in several injuries among the police personnel.

Muhammadu Lawal, the father of the deceased boy, revealed that he and Zaria had previously clashed over noise disturbances at night. However, he expressed uncertainty regarding any link between this prior conflict and his son's tragic death, leaving the matter to divine judgement.

Recalling the horrific discovery, he stated, "I found my son's body in a pit, stripped of his eyes, with his throat cut and signs of strangulation present."

A respected figure in the community, Yahaya Ladan Shafale, known as Kakakin Sarkin Keffi, confirmed that the Emirate has severed ties with Zaria, emphasizing that he was no longer employed by the palace, having been dismissed months prior. Shafale condemned the violent incident, labeling it shocking and unprecedented in Keffi, a town with a rich historical backdrop.

The Public Relations Officer for the Nasarawa State Police Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, verified the occurrence, explaining that they responded to a distress call from the vigilante's leader, Dogara Garba, regarding the violent situation.

Nansel reported that by the time police reached the location, the mob had already killed and burned Zaria, also attacking police officers, damaging their vehicles in the process. The police were able to restore order and transport the charred remains to the General Hospital in Keffi for further examination.

Investigations are currently underway to shed light on both the boy's death and the circumstances leading to Zaria's lynching. Meanwhile, community members are calling for accountability from authorities to ensure those involved in this mob violence face justice.
