A 35-year-old individual, identified as Malime Sunday Ejor, is now in police custody following his arrest for the alleged murder of his partner, Moshie Lucy Igu. This incident took place in a farming area located in Nwang Village within the Ekajuk region of Ogoja Local Government Area in Cross River State.
According to preliminary information, the alleged murder transpired in the early morning hours of March 28, 2026, around 6:00 a.m., when the suspect is reported to have assaulted the victim at a farm where they were both present.
Sources indicate that the suspect dragged Moshie Lucy Igu to a nearby stream in the farm vicinity and inflicted deadly machete wounds on her, which ultimately led to her demise.
Law enforcement officials, upon receiving reports of distress, quickly responded to the scene and arrested the suspect. However, he was rescued from angered local youths who had converged at the scene, intending to take matters into their own hands.
Currently, the suspect remains in custody as investigations unfold. Authorities mentioned that arrangements are being made to transfer the remains of the deceased to the General Hospital mortuary in Ogoja for preservation.
The incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River State, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata. He reported that on March 30, 2026, around 10:30 a.m., a group of women and youths from Nwang I & II, joined by others from the Ekajuk Clan, stormed the police command demanding the release of the suspect, who had been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar.
As tensions escalated, the assembled crowd became violent, clashing with officers and damaging property, including a Hyundai vehicle and parts of the Rapid Response Squad building. To quell the unrest, police deployed smoke canisters, resulting in the arrest of eight individuals from the gathering. The situation has since been brought under control, and the arrested individuals were later handed over to a community leader to diffuse the tensions further.
