The political scene in Gombe State underwent a significant transformation on Thursday when Inuwa Garba, the lawmaker representing the Yamaltu-Deba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr. Garba visited Governor Muhammadu Yahaya to formally declare his switch to the APC, presenting his membership card, which he secured from his ward in Lubo, located in the Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area. This move signifies his full commitment to the ruling party.
During the meeting, Garba credited his decision to the visionary leadership and notable developmental achievements of Governor Yahaya.
He expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's reform initiatives, highlighting that the APC stands as a more robust and dependable platform for fostering sustainable national development.
He articulated that the party's governance philosophy aligns perfectly with his dedication to effective representation and community-based growth.
"The APC serves as the hallmark of progressive governance in Nigeria. Under the guidance of Governor Inuwa Yahaya in Gombe and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the national level, I believe our constituents will see substantial development and inclusive policies," Garba stated.
He assured the governor of his loyalty to the APC and his intent to work for the party's unity and progress in the Yamaltu-Deba region and beyond.
Governor Yahaya welcomed Garba’s decision, deeming it courageous and reflective of the lawmaker's commitment to enhancing the life of his constituents. He noted that the defection is indicative of mounting public confidence in the APC’s approach to governance in the state.
The governor reiterated his administration's ongoing efforts to prioritize people-focused projects, improve infrastructure, expand educational and healthcare access, and encourage economic diversification for lasting prosperity.
Recently appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Renewed Hope Ambassador and Secretary for Party Outreach, Engagement, and Mobilisation, Governor Yahaya remarked that Garba joining the APC further strengthens the party’s position in Gombe State and strategically prepares it for future electoral contests.
This development is widely regarded as a substantial enhancement of the APC's structure within the Yamaltu-Deba Federal Constituency and symbolizes a clear indication of evolving political dynamics as the next electoral cycle approaches.
