Troops from the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army successfully countered an ambush by armed thugs while they were responding to a distress signal related to a community conflict in Odonget Community, situated in the Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State.

This was disclosed by Major Yemi Sokoya, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Headquarters 13 Brigade, in a statement issued on March 12, 2026.

The ambush took place on the same day, after troops deployed at Ochon and Alesi received reliable reports of escalating tensions tied to a communal dispute in Odonget Community.

“In a bid to avert any breakdown of law and order, the military personnel swiftly mobilized to the locale, carried out patrols, and demonstrated a show of force that helped to de-escalate the situation and restore peace among the involved parties,” the statement explained.
