Nigerian Army troops have successfully rescued a kidnapped woman and arrested two suspects as part of targeted intelligence operations in Benue State.
Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, the Acting Media Information Officer of HQ JTF Operation WHIRL STROKE, revealed this information in a statement issued on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
The rescued victim, Mrs. Member Ityavber, 28, was located following the troops' rapid response to reports of kidnapping incidents in Tse-Ubena village, situated in the Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.
The two suspects were captured during a raid on a criminal hideout located in Gwer West Local Government Area.
"Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE have achieved notable operational success through intelligence-driven clearance operations conducted on March 24, 2026, in various locations across Benue State," the statement indicated.
"Based on credible intelligence regarding the presence of armed herders operating in the Mbapa and Mbabuande communities of Gwer West Local Government Area, troops from Sector 1, deployed from Bilawa-Jor and Naka, were quickly mobilized to the affected area."
"Upon arrival, the troops executed a detailed search and discovered an abandoned location suspected to be a hideout for criminals."
"They continued their operations downstream along River Akpako, leading to the arrest of two suspects, who are currently in custody and being further interrogated."
On the same day, troops were also dispatched following reports of kidnapping activities in Tse-Ubena village, within the Yooyo Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.
"Troops, alongside members of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, executed a coordinated operation on a suspected hideout, which resulted in the successful rescue of one kidnapped individual, Mrs. Member Ityavber, aged 28."
"The rescued individual is presently receiving assistance and has been reconnected with her family after debriefing."
"Ongoing efforts are in place to capture the individuals behind the criminal syndicate responsible for the kidnapping."
Major General Moses Gara, the Force Commander of the Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, praised the troops for their swift responses and professionalism during the operation.
He emphasized the commitment of the Joint Task Force to maintain a secure environment, especially as communities prepare for the upcoming farming season.
