In Northeast Nigeria, soldiers from the Joint Task Force North-East, known as Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have successfully repelled three distinct attempts by fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) to overrun military positions over a 24-hour span.
The most recent failed invasion occurred at Bitta in Sector 1, where troops successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt by terrorists. This follows previous assaults at Banki and the Azir Bridge, both of which were also blocked effectively by the military.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for Operation Hadin Kai, the troops showcased exceptional combat preparedness and tactical coordination in countering the attempted incursion at Bitta.
He noted that the terrorists appeared to be trying to regain their strength after facing setbacks in previous encounters, which prompted them to target the military location.
However, the troops had readied themselves for this action and developed a robust counter-strategy.
As the insurgents progressed toward their target, the soldiers initiated coordinated operations that disrupted the attackers’ formations while effectively maneuvering to cut off potential escape routes.
Faced with rigorous resistance and superior firepower, the terrorists were compelled to retreat chaotically, suffering notable losses.
Lieutenant Colonel Uba shared that the thwarted infiltration attempt at Bitta marked the third unsuccessful effort by ISWAP fighters to breach military defenses within 24 hours, following earlier incidents at Banki and Azir Bridge, which had also been repelled.
The military has indicated that these continuous failures endured by the insurgents highlight the enduring operational pressure being applied by the troops of Operation Hadin Kai in the ongoing conflict area.
The assertion further stressed that the ongoing pressure has considerably restrained the terrorists’ mobility and limited their capacity to launch attacks or leverage propaganda narratives.
“Despite their persistent attempts, our troops maintain firm control over all their locations and continue to prevail in the operational environment through high morale, effective coordination, and sustained offensive operations,” the statement noted.
The Military High Command commended the troops for their bravery, professionalism, and resilience, urging them to sustain their current operational momentum in the active fight against terrorism in the Northeast.
