In my previous piece titled “Nasir El Rufai as a threat to national security,” I posed several questions about the actions, remarks, and troubling confessions of my former associate, Nasir El-Rufai, and I continue to seek responses.
The last update I received about him is that he remains in detention, reportedly suffering a nosebleed after one week there, for which I express my sympathy.
Additionally, I neglected to mention in that article the significant number of orphanages that were demolished in Abuja during his time as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), rendering countless orphans homeless.
Moreover, he was responsible for the destruction of approximately 2,000 homes and other structures in Abuja, alongside 12,000 makeshift houses at the outskirts. These actions were often executed against court orders and without compensation.
I also overlooked to note that he demolished numerous orphanages in Kaduna during his governorship, with one of the most chilling acts involving the destruction of an orphanage in Zaria on the eve of handing over to Governor Uba Sani.
The worst aspect of this demolition was that it occurred around 1 a.m. and without a court order!
Details of his final demolition efforts before leaving office on May 29, 2023, include the Gbagyi Villa destruction where the Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KASUPDA) tore down houses despite existing court injunctions.
On May 22, 2023, just a week before his term ended, KASUPDA also razed several structures tied to the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), including schools and healthcare facilities in areas such as Kawo and Tudun Wada.
El-Rufai had previously vowed to continue demolishing structures until his very last day in office, which he did, with specific reports from that period indicating the destruction of community centers and orphanages, leading to claims of a vindictive approach.
In expressing my views, the term 'bestial' fits more aptly than 'vindictive'. It’s inhumane to inflict such suffering on the vulnerable populations.
He showed a remarkable lack of empathy, disregarding the distress he caused families, and exhibited a callous nature rarely seen in leadership.
Furthermore, El-Rufai reportedly persecuted the followers of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi in Kaduna, targeting their homes and places of worship, provoking responses of anger and curses from the affected communities, including a public protest by local women.
It appears that during his governorship, he generated more public curses against himself than any other governor in our nation’s history.
Also noteworthy was his decision to prohibit state-backed pilgrimages for both Muslims going to Mecca and Christians to Jerusalem, only to subtly lift the ban for Muslims while strictly enforcing it for Christians, demonstrating a selective and biased approach.
Following his tenure, the Christians of Kaduna were finally allowed state- sponsored pilgrimages under Governor Uba Sani, breaking an 11-year hiatus.
Additionally, he banned night vigils for Christians and mandated pastors to submit sermon scripts before preaching.
Numerous petitions from Shi’a Muslims, Tijaniya Muslims, and Christians alleging human rights abuses under El-Rufai were submitted to the State Security Service when he was nominated as a minister, leading to the Senate rejecting his nomination.
Contrary to popular belief, his rejection was not due to some fabricated conspiracy orchestrated by the NSA or other officials as he and his supporters claim.
His relationship with incoming Governor Uba Sani, who had financially supported El-Rufai's legal battles in the past, deteriorated as El-Rufai attempted to undermine Sani’s new administration despite having previously declared he would step back from state matters.
El-Rufai's betrayal extended further: even those who stood by him during tough times found themselves attacked and his adverse actions culminated in hostility towards anyone he perceived as a threat.
As stated earlier, despite my concerns flagged in my earlier piece, I wish to address alarming issues regarding the potential involvement of El-Rufai's associates with foreign intelligence and suspicious phone-tapping activities.
I fear that there may be a plot surrounding allegations of thallium sulfate importation into Nigeria for lethal purposes, which raises profound questions about national security. Could El-Rufai or his associates be planning a 'false flag' operation to further destabilize the country?
Such actions, historically executed by foreign operatives, often result in widespread chaos, and I hope no such agenda is in play here.
El-Rufai must cooperate fully with security agencies to clarify his stance and motives, especially in light of the dangerous elements he may have associated with.
If prominent figures like Abubakar Malami, under suspicion of terrorism- related activities, share ties with this conspiracy, clarity is essential.
Therefore, it’s crucial for El-Rufai to disclose any knowledge he has to ensure the safety of all and prevent further turmoil. My inquiries stem not out of fear but from an earnest desire for Nigeria’s peace and humanity’s protection.
The specter of chemical weapons and their potential misuse, as historically exemplified in tragedies worldwide, must guide our caution and vigilance in safeguarding our nation from any malevolent plots.
In closing, I urge a thorough investigation by our intelligence agencies to unearth the truth surrounding these developments and assure the public of their security.
