Chelsea player Mykhailo Mudryk has been issued a four-year suspension by the English Football Association due to an anti-doping violation discovered in 2024. The Ukrainian international has been under provisional suspension since December 2024 after testing positive for meldonium, a prohibited substance, while participating in international duty for Ukraine.
Reports indicate that Mudryk has initiated an appeal against the Football Association's ruling with the Court of Arbitration for Sports. The winger, who transferred to Chelsea for €70 million in January 2023, faced suspension after nearly two years with the London club. The 25-year-old was formally charged by the FA after his second urine sample confirmed the presence of the banned substance last year.
The FA imposed the four-year ban on the former Shakhtar Donetsk player after he had already been sidelined for 17 months. Mudryk still has over two years remaining on his ban, but the CAS has confirmed that the winger has lodged a case with its court in an effort to overturn the FA's decision. The international sports court has further stated that no date has yet been set for a ruling on the appeal, which was submitted in February.
"CAS confirms it has received an appeal by Mykhailo Mudryk against the FA, filed on 25 February 2026. The Parties are currently exchanging written submissions, and a hearing is yet to be scheduled," a statement from the CAS read.
Mudryk's legal team includes the same lawyers who were successful in reducing Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba's four-year doping ban to 18 months.
