The lifeless body of an unidentified woman was recovered from a river located in the Bukuru Low-cost community of Jos South Local Government Area in Plateau State.
The horrifying discovery was made on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, and has sent the community into mourning and disbelief.
A video circulating on social media depicts local residents retrieving the woman's remains from the river.
Tina Gabriel, a local resident who spoke to Punch, expressed her horror at the incident, stating that the deceased was allegedly murdered by unknown individuals.
"This is terrible; we can’t believe someone would kill a person and leave their body in our river. I have never witnessed anything like this before,” she lamented.
Another resident, who chose to remain anonymous, denounced the crime and asserted, “We require justice for this woman. It is crucial to catch and penalize the person responsible.”
He mentioned that the police had been informed about the incident and that an investigation is currently underway to both identify the victim and apprehend those responsible for her death.
“We were alerted to the corpse's discovery, and people gathered. Some police officers also arrived at the site. The body of the woman was subsequently sent to the mortuary for further examination,” he added.
