John Michael-Abdul, who previously served as the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, has been officially installed as the new Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state. The party's state executive committee, along with officials representing the three senatorial districts, were also chosen during the same electoral process.
The election took place on Saturday in Lafia, the capital city, and was characterized by a consensus-building approach that was subsequently endorsed by delegates from all thirteen local government areas within Nasarawa State.
In his address following his election, the new chairman articulated his commitment to revitalizing the party and positioning it as a significant political alternative within Nasarawa. He emphasized a focus on grassroots engagement, fostering internal democracy, and promoting issue-oriented political discourse in preparation for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Michael-Abdul expressed confidence in the ADC's potential to secure leadership positions at both the state and national levels, highlighting the importance of building a party grounded in principles of integrity, inclusivity, and effective service delivery.
"Your consensus and this congress have placed the responsibility of leading our great party for the next four years in our hands. We accept this mandate with humility and a profound sense of duty," he stated.
He further announced that the new leadership would introduce a detailed work plan within the next 30 days, designed to strengthen the party's presence across all 147 electoral wards and 13 local government areas.
The chairman assured party members that the ADC would increase its visibility and responsiveness to public concerns, appealing to all stakeholders for their cooperation in the party's rebuilding efforts.
Meanwhile, the outgoing state chairman, Barr. Paul Magaji, extended his gratitude to the members for the opportunity to serve and urged them to continue their support for the newly elected executive.
Barr. Kani Jibarang, who chaired the congress committee, commended the peaceful and transparent nature of the election, noting that all positions were filled without any disputes. The elected officials were subsequently sworn into office after the ratification process.
The installation of this new leadership is anticipated to inject renewed energy into the ADC in Nasarawa as the party prepares for the 2027 electoral contests.
