The Nigeria Police Force in Nasarawa State has officially confirmed that 11 individuals died and around 52 homes were razed during a communal crisis affecting the Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities within the Nasarawa Local Government Area.

The violent incident, which commenced in the early hours of Friday, April 3, 2026, is believed to have stemmed from a retaliatory act by alleged hoodlums. The motive is thought to be linked to the reported killing of two people from an opposing faction.

Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, visited the affected areas and engaged in a dialogue with community stakeholders, urging for calm and cooperation with security forces by providing valuable information.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, the command indicated that a thorough manhunt has been launched to apprehend the individuals responsible for the attack that resulted in extensive property damage, estimated to be worth millions of naira.

The police commissioner conveyed his profound regret over the distressing event and extended condolences to the families who suffered losses.

“The attack unfolded in the early hours of Friday, April 3, 2026, and is suspected to be a reprisal following the alleged killing of two individuals from a rival group. In the violence that ensued, 11 persons lost their lives, about 50 houses were burnt in Akyawa, while two others were destroyed in Udege Kasa,” the statement detailed.

Strongly denouncing the fatalities, the Commissioner of Police pledged the command's unwavering commitment to ensuring justice and directed specialized tactical teams and investigators to pursue and prosecute all involved parties.

Furthermore, the police confirmed an enhanced security presence in the affected region, working in conjunction with military personnel and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to restore order and enforce peace.

The command assured the public that normalcy has been re-established in the impacted communities and that preventive measures are now in place to avert any future outbreaks of violence.
