The Nigerian Navy has announced that its personnel killed two specialists involved in the fabrication of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed faction, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during a recent clearance operation in Imo State.

Naval spokesperson, Abiodun Folorunsho, explained in a statement shared on Facebook on Sunday evening that the operation was executed by the Naval Base Oguta Tactical Patrol Squadron in the Orsu Local Government Area.

While the Navy did not specify the exact date of the operation, it indicated that this action was part of a broader initiative involving various security agencies targeting suspected IPOB/ESN positions in the Orsu-Ihiteukwa axis, which includes the general Mother Valley area.

In the statement, Folorunsho stated, "The Nigerian Navy, through the Naval Base Oguta Tactical Patrol Squadron, has achieved significant operational success in suppressing suspected IPOB/ESN hideouts in Orsu Local Government Area, as part of a joint operation with other security forces."

During this operation, naval troops encountered several improvised explosive devices, reinforcing the existence of an active IED network in the region. The statement continued, "In the course of the operation, the troops encountered multiple Improvised Explosive Devices, confirming the presence of an active IED network. Following detailed reconnaissance, an IED manufacturing facility was located, leading to a successful ambush that neutralized two IED specialists."

Furthermore, the Navy disclosed that all identified explosive devices were safely destroyed on-site to mitigate any potential threat to both civilians and security operatives.

The Navy also confirmed that there were no injuries among its personnel during this operation, stating, "All personnel and materials were secure, marking the operation as a complete success."

Reiterating its commitment, the Navy emphasized its dedication to ongoing, intelligence-led operations in collaboration with other security entities to dismantle criminal networks and promote stability in the region. "The Nigerian Navy reaffirms its commitment to sustaining aggressive, intelligence-driven operations, in conjunction with other security agencies, to eliminate criminal organizations and restore enduring peace in the area," concluded the statement.
