The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the Chartered Institute of Forensic and Certified Fraud Investigators of Nigeria (CIFCFIN) have announced a partnership aimed at fighting forgery and various fraudulent activities that have become a source of national shame.

The two organizations emphasized the importance of incorporating forensic techniques into Nigeria's upcoming 2027 general elections as a means to curb forgery and fraud by reinforcing institutional structures.

NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, conveyed these insights while hosting the CIFCFIN President and other council members at his office in Abuja.

He raised concerns about why electronic verification appears to work seamlessly for JAMB records, yet remains a tedious process for verifying academic credentials and judicial documents. He highlighted that judgments from foreign courts are often more readily available than those from local jurisdictions.

Osigwe underscored that employing forensic science could bolster the judicial system, enhance the credibility of institutions, and protect democracy as the country heads towards the 2027 elections.

In previous remarks, CIFCFIN's Founder and Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Iliyasu Gashinbaki, stated that the institute has already trained over 6,000 professionals, including legal experts, since it received its charter three years ago.
