Authorities from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended 339 suspects and confiscated a total of 7,746.896 kilogrammes of illegal drugs. The seized substances include cannabis, cocaine, tramadol, and other psychotropic substances, all found within Kogi State.
Mustapha Yahuza, the Kogi State Commander of the NDLEA, shared these details during a press conference held at the command's headquarters in Lokoja. Yahuza, who holds the rank of Assistant Commander General of Narcotics, also indicated that the agency successfully prosecuted 80 cases in 2025, leading to various prison sentences for the offenders.
He further stated that the command significantly enhanced its Drug Demand Reduction initiatives, which encompass educational programs on drug abuse prevention and the ongoing War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign. "Approximately 71 outreach events were conducted in various locations such as motor parks, schools, marketplaces, mosques, and churches as part of the Drug Demand Reduction efforts," Yahuza reported.
Additionally, Yahuza mentioned that 238 individuals identified as struggling with drug dependence received counselling and brief intervention services during the reporting period.
The commander also highlighted a collaborative effort with the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative, a non-governmental organization supported by the wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajiya Sefinat Ododo. This partnership has been instrumental in advancing public awareness and drug prevention campaigns.
Furthermore, Yahuza revealed that the NDLEA, in partnership with the Kogi State Government, has established a high-level State Drug Control Committee (SDCC). This committee is tasked with ensuring the effective implementation of policies aimed at reducing both the supply and demand for drugs throughout the state.
