Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South, has expressed his outrage following a string of explosions that shook Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, on Monday night.

The tragic incidents reportedly led to the deaths of 23 individuals and injuries to 146 others.

Currently on a pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, the senator shared his profound sorrow over the tragedy and reiterated his commitment to advocating for enhanced security measures throughout Borno State and the nation as a whole.

He stressed the importance of addressing the ongoing threats to civilian safety with increased urgency and coordinated efforts.

Ndume further extended his condolences to Borno State's Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, the victims' families, the injured, and officials at Monday Market and UMTH, where victims are being treated.

“I can only imagine the burden and sorrow our Governor is presently facing. It is an immensely heartbreaking situation for him and everyone affected. May Allah provide us with comfort, strength, and healing,” he stated.

He lauded the prompt action of security forces and called on them to bolster their efforts to safeguard lives and prevent future violence.

As the Eid celebrations approach, the lawmaker urged residents to remain alert, emphasizing that security is a collective duty.

“I implore all individuals, not just in Maiduguri but throughout Borno State, particularly in the southern region, to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities. We must maintain our vigilance during this critical period,” Ndume highlighted.

He concluded by praying for the souls of the deceased, a swift recovery for the wounded, and lasting peace in both Borno State and Nigeria at large.
