According to a probable cause affidavit, Jerome Morris, who has a documented history of harassment, stalking, and threats, allegedly attacked his wife shortly after she informed him of her intention to leave him.

The victim's daughter told investigators that she heard sounds of her mother being attacked while on the phone with 911. She reported hearing her mother scream that Jerome was attempting to kill her. While on the emergency call, the daughter used a key to unlock the bedroom door, where she allegedly saw Jerome Morris standing over a bloodied Monica Morris, knife in hand.

Monica Morris was a respected culinary arts instructor at Trenton Central High School and a mother of four. Her son-in-law established a GoFundMe page to support her family, describing her as a compassionate and generous role model who brought warmth and hope to those around her.
