Final arrangements are being finalized for the inaugural ceremony of the second Niger Delta Games, scheduled for Friday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo State.

Several state teams have been arriving at the Benson Idahosa University Games Village, designated for accommodating athletes and officials, as rehearsals extended into the night to perfect the ceremonial program.

Organizers expressed confidence in their preparations but recognized the stress associated with hosting significant sporting events. "We have made significant progress in our arrangements, and I am quite pleased and thrilled with what we have in store, but it’s vital to stay vigilant at this critical moment," remarked Itiako Ikpokpo, Chairman of Dunamis-Icon Limited, the company that owns the Niger Delta Games trademark, after the draw for the ball games.

Delta State was the first team to arrive, subsequently followed by those from Bayelsa and Imo states. Project Director Fred Edoreh assured that logistics at the Games Village had been organized to facilitate a seamless accreditation process for participants.

"Our plan ensures that the state teams can move directly from their vehicles to the accreditation tents set up near the hostels," stated Mr. Edoreh.

Preparations for the opening ceremony ramped up at the main stadium, where sound checks, choreography, and visual elements were being rehearsed. Edi Lawani, the Chairman of the Cultural and Entertainment Committee, oversaw the final technical checks as entertainers rehearsed on the field.

"We have a memorable two-hour show planned, with performances from top musical and comedy acts," Mr. Lawani said. Notable performances are slated from Patoranking and gospel artist Eben.

The opening ceremony is set to be broadcast live on three national TV channels. Harry Iwuala, Chairman of the Communication and Media Committee, confirmed the broadcast would be carried live by Arise Television, African Independent Television (AIT), and News Central, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Niger Delta Games, sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), aims to promote grassroots sports development and foster regional unity among the participating states in the Niger Delta.
