According to the Defence Headquarters, the Nigerian troops operating as part of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully killed over 30 terrorists and aided the return of more than 700 Nigerian refugees within just one week, as military operations intensified throughout the North East.
Major General Michael Onoja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, conveyed these updates on the military’s recent activities during the past week.
The major general indicated that these achievements were the result of focused and intelligence-led operations targeting Boko Haram, ISWAP, and JAS factions, executed in cooperation with aerial support and local security personnel.
On January 30, he noted, troops carried out clearance missions in the Timbuktu Triangle near Kimba, in the Damboa Local Government Area of Borno, where they eliminated over 20 terrorists, including a significant commander named Julaibib.
Mr. Onoja further mentioned that similar military operations are currently in progress in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno, as well as in Hong and Mubi North Local Government Areas in Adamawa.
These operations have resulted in additional terrorist fatalities, arrests of kidnappers, the rescue of kidnapped individuals, and the recovery of various arms and military equipment.
Additionally, troops discovered and dismantled three major detention centers used by terrorists along the Damboa–Gujba route in the Timbuktu Triangle, which had the capacity to detain up to 300 individuals each, liberating 70 victims during these operations.
During the same timeframe, the second group comprised of approximately 700 Nigerian refugees was safely repatriated from Cameroon through the Banki border in Bama LGA of Borno, with comprehensive security measures in place throughout the process.
Onoja stated that the ongoing military efforts across Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states have also led to the detention of logistical suppliers linked to terrorism and the retrieval of weaponry and ammunition, while aerial operations successfully destroyed five suspected vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs) along the Marguna road in Kaga LGA of Borno.
He concluded that these sustained military efforts have been crucial in weakening terrorist networks and enhancing security conditions necessary for safe resettlements in the region.
