The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has indicated that disciplinary measures will be applied to police officers captured in a viral video, who are accused of harassing an aspiring rap artist and his associate. This alleged incident took place in the Abulado district of Lagos on Saturday, March 4.
The video footage shows police officers halting the vehicle occupied by the two men, instructing them to exit, and requesting they relocate to another spot for a search.
When one of the individuals questioned the reason for the relocation and began recording the interaction, the officers reportedly reacted negatively, demanding he cease filming.
The video's circulation ignited considerable backlash from Nigerians, with many expressing disapproval of the officers' conduct.
In response, the police complaint response unit stated via its X account that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has ordered the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Satellite Town, Lagos, to present the officers involved in Abuja on April 8 for disciplinary proceedings. The NPF confirmed that the officers have been identified and will face appropriate sanctions.
"The policemen in the viral video have been identified and appropriate disciplinary actions await them accordingly. We seek your support and trust as we fight impunity to a standstill," the unit's statement read.
