Nigerian Troops Detain Suspected Gunrunners and Seize Ammunition in Taraba

Troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army apprehended two individuals suspected of arms trafficking during a stop-and-search operation in Taraba State. They recovered a significant quantity of ammunition as part of the operation.

During a stop-and-search operation along the Wukari-Ikyaior Road in the Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, soldiers from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), captured two individuals suspected of trafficking weapons.

The apprehension took place on Thursday when the suspects were riding a motorcycle.

The individuals are identified as Wisdom Soomga, aged 32, from the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, and 38-year-old Elisha Danladi, a resident of Wukari Local Government Area in Taraba State.

Lieutenant Umar Mohammed, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, reported from Jalingo that the troops successfully confiscated 444 rounds of 7.63mm special ammunition following a thorough search of the suspects.

Additionally, the troops recovered ₦29,200 in cash, two mobile phones, ATM cards, various charms, personal items, and the motorcycle used for their transport.

The suspects, along with the recovered items, are currently in custody, where further investigations will determine the origin and intended purpose of the ammunition.

Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, the Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS, praised the troops for their alertness and swift action, reaffirming the directives from the Chief of Army Staff to combat criminal activities and enhance security in Taraba State.
