The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast indicating sunny and partially cloudy conditions throughout Nigeria from Sunday to Tuesday.

In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja, NiMet noted that the northern region will experience predominantly sunny weather during this forecast period.

The agency expects the North-central areas to see clear skies with some patchy clouds throughout the day.

Additionally, isolated thunderstorms may occur in regions of Kogi, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Kwara states during the day.

In the southern regions, cloudy skies interspersed with sunny intervals are expected, along with isolated thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Delta, and Cross River states in the morning hours.

Later in the day, moderate rainfall resulting from thunderstorms is forecast for the areas of Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti, Osun, Edo, Imo, Enugu, Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Delta states.

On Monday, NiMet predicts continued sunshine across the northern region, with a chance of isolated thunderstorms in southern Taraba State. The North-central region is also expected to have sunny conditions with some clouds, alongside potential for thunderstorms and light rain, particularly over Kogi and Nasarawa states in the morning.

Isolated thunderstorms with moderate rain are likely to develop in Benue State later that day.

Similarly, the southern region will likely be overcast with intermittent sunshine, and isolated thunderstorms along with light rain may affect Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Ondo, Delta, Lagos, Ogun, Edo, and Cross River states early in the day.

By the afternoon, thunderstorms with moderate rain could occur in Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, Imo, Enugu, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Delta states.

On Tuesday, NiMet forecasts sunny conditions will continue across the northern regions. The agency anticipates patchy clouds in the North-central region during the morning hours, with thunderstorms and light rains possible later in the day in the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, and Niger states.

In the south, cloudy intervals with some sunshine are likely, alongside isolated thunderstorms and light rain in Lagos, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, and Cross River states.

As the day progresses, thunderstorms are predicted to bring moderate rainfall to parts of Ondo, Edo, Imo, Bayelsa, and Delta states.

NiMet warns residents that strong winds may precede thunderstorms and urges them to take necessary precautions. This includes securing loose items to prevent damage and avoiding travel during heavy rain. The agency also recommends disconnecting electrical devices and staying clear of tall trees to mitigate risks from falling branches and trees.

Temperatures are expected to remain high, possibly leading to discomfort, and the public is encouraged to dress in light clothing, seek shaded areas, and stay hydrated.

Additionally, airlines are advised to contact NiMet for specific weather reports crucial for their operations.
