The Lagos State Police Command has detained nine individuals linked to the murder of Prince Ademola Akinloye, the son of Oba Tijani Akinloye, the Ajiran of Agungi.
According to reports, gunmen attacked and brutally killed Prince Demola near Ebano Supermarket on Chevron Drive on August 26, 2024.
As reported by local news outlets, seven suspects were taken into custody on February 10, 2026, by the command's tactical squad, while two were caught a week prior as part of the ongoing investigation into the crime.
A police official, who chose to remain unnamed, mentioned that the arrests resulted from gathering intelligence and inquiries that pointed to the suspects' involvement in the fatal incident.
"The nine individuals currently in detention were arrested due to their alleged participation in the murder of Prince Ademola Akinloye. These arrests stemmed from intelligence and a continuous probe into the violent act," the official stated.
Additionally, the source noted that some of the arrested suspects might also be connected to the murder of one Sheriff Salami on April 18, 2023, in the Moba area of Ajah.
In a concurrent development, the Ojomu Royal Family of Ajiran publicly stated their active participation in the current investigation pertaining to the murders of both the prince and Salami.
The statement, issued by Oba Tijani Adetunji Akinloye alongside Alhaji Yekini Olawale Bakare, emphasized that the killings took place in plain view within the Ojomu community.
The royal family expressed that the investigation was crucial to holding the perpetrators accountable and ensuring the safety of residents within their jurisdiction.
"The Ojomu Royal Family of Ajiran wishes to inform the public that it is deeply involved in the probe concerning the murders... This investigation aims to ensure that murderers do not operate freely in our domain, allowing our citizens to live without fear," the announcement read.
Furthermore, the family highlighted the need for the investigation to bring closure to their members and ensure justice for the victims of these violent acts.
Concerns were also raised regarding alleged unauthorized sales of the family’s land, warning the community to be vigilant.
Businessman and community member Bashir Fakorede voiced strong support for reopening the murder case.
In a statement released through his media aide, Ola Mohammed, he commended the police for reigniting the investigation that led to the apprehension of nine suspects.
He urged law enforcement to conduct a swift and transparent inquiry and affirmed that justice must be served for the impacted families and the community. He remarked, "This case is not merely a land dispute; framing it as such is misleading."
He cautioned against attempts to divert attention from the investigation through protests or destruction of property, noting that a primary suspect remains at large. He praised security agencies for their renewed focus and encouraged the youth to seek justice peacefully.
Fakorede also appealed to journalists to practice responsible reporting by verifying information before publication, stressing the importance of accurate reporting for truth and accountability in the ongoing investigation.
