Nine Residents Kidnapped, Two Injured in Sokoto Community Attack

Bandits have reportedly abducted nine people and injured two others in the Chacho community of Sokoto State's Wurno Local Government Area. The incident occurred late Wednesday night when the attackers breached the village.

A community in Sokoto State has fallen victim to a violent attack, with reports indicating that nine residents were kidnapped and two sustained injuries. The incident took place in the Chacho community, located within the Wurno Local Government Area. The perpetrators reportedly raided the village around 11:00 pm on Wednesday, April 2, 2026.

According to a relative of one of the victims, who requested anonymity, the attackers gained entry into the community by exploiting a route that connects to the notorious Sabon Birni forest, an area known to be a sanctuary for criminal elements. This forest is a frequent base for bandit activities.

"We were sleeping outside when someone raised the alarm that bandits had attacked our village. We immediately fled for our lives," the source recounted, describing the initial moments of the raid.

The individual also mentioned hearing the sounds of gunfire originating from a different section of the community, noting that their home was situated in the central part of the village.

During the offensive, the gunmen are said to have abducted seven women and two elderly men. Additionally, two other individuals suffered injuries and are presently receiving medical attention for their wounds.

Locals have voiced deep concern over the escalating incidents of banditry in the region, citing a perceived lack of adequate security presence as a contributing factor to the worsening situation.

Ahmad Rufai, the police spokesperson for Sokoto, has acknowledged the attack. However, he stated that law enforcement officials are still in the process of confirming the precise number of individuals who were abducted.
