The interim leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has firmly stated that Nabil Sarki Aliyu Daneji and Saadu Aminu Saadu are the party’s endorsed candidates for the Kano Municipal and Ungogo state constituencies, respectively. These nominations are set for the February 21 by-election to fill the seats vacated by the deaths of two serving members of the Kano State House of Assembly.

The party indicated that the names of these two candidates have been officially submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address the vacancies.

This assertion follows a statement by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's spokesman, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who suggested that the appearance of multiple candidates from different NNPP factions for the by-election validated the governor's recent move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The NNPP had initially issued nomination tickets to the children of the late lawmakers. However, the party noted that certain factional leaders, including Senator Mas’ud Jibrin Doguwa, have put forward different candidates to INEC.

In a released statement, the NNPP's interim publicity secretary, Engr. Ibrahim Karaye, reiterated that the nominations of Aliyu Daneji and Aminu Saadu are legitimate and valid.

Karaye stated that the party disavows individuals claiming to represent factional leaderships, characterizing many of them as former members whose affiliations were terminated or as individuals who were never part of the party.

He further affirmed that the NNPP is currently led by Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Maikano as the acting chairman, adding that Senator Mas’ud Doguwa has never been a member of the party.

Additionally, Karaye mentioned that Hon. Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya's claim to the chairmanship is no longer valid after the National Working Committee dissolved the Dungurawa-led executives.

The NNPP spokesman advised Bature Dawakin Tofa to concentrate on his governmental duties. He urged the Kano State Government to prioritize policies and programs beneficial to the public, rather than attempting to justify actions perceived as disloyalty to the party and its leadership.
