Northern Governors Denounce Maiduguri Bombings, Urge End to Terrorism

The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has issued a strong condemnation of the recent bomb explosions that occurred in Maiduguri on Monday evening. The forum described the incidents as barbaric and a direct assault on innocent lives.

The series of explosions reportedly took place nearly simultaneously at the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, the Monday Market Roundabout, and the Post Office area. Initial reports indicate that numerous individuals lost their lives, with many others sustaining injuries.

In a statement released in his capacity as the chairman of the NSGF, Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State conveyed profound sorrow over the tragic events. He extended his deepest sympathies to the government and the people of Borno State, particularly to the families who suffered the loss of loved ones.

Governor Yahaya characterized the attacks as a senseless act of violence intended to spread fear and destabilize the fragile peace in the North-East region.

“This heinous act represents a cruel assault on our shared humanity and warrants the strongest possible condemnation,” he stated.

The governor also expressed solidarity with those who were injured and are currently receiving medical attention, offering prayers for their swift recovery. He acknowledged the commendable promptness of first responders and security agencies in managing the aftermath of the explosions.

Reaffirming the commitment of the northern governors, Yahaya pledged to collaborate closely with the Federal Government and security organizations to effectively combat terrorism and other criminal activities that pose a threat to the region's peace and stability.

He appealed to residents to maintain their calm, remain vigilant, and adhere to the law. Furthermore, he urged the public to support security agencies by providing credible information to assist in ongoing investigations.

“At this critical juncture, it is imperative that we stand united against the forces of terror. Our determination to secure our region remains unwavering, and together, we will overcome these cowardly acts,” the governor added.

Governor Yahaya also called for intensified measures to ensure that those responsible for orchestrating these attacks are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice. He concluded by offering prayers for the repose of the souls of all victims.
