Nottingham Forest has officially relieved Sean Dyche of his managerial duties after just 114 days in charge, as the club seeks to find a replacement amid a growing relegation threat. Former Wolves boss Vitor Pereira has emerged as a primary candidate for the role.

The decision to sack Dyche came on the heels of a disappointing goalless home draw against Wolves, the bottom team in the Premier League, which left Forest only three points above the relegation zone with twelve matches left to play. According to reports from BBC Sport, Pereira, who is 57, is favored for the position, having previously worked alongside Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis during his time at Olympiacos.

Dyche's termination marks the search for Nottingham Forest's fourth permanent head coach this season, following the earlier exits of Ange Postecoglou in October and Nuno Espirito Santo in September.

A club statement confirmed, "Nottingham Forest Football Club can acknowledge that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his head coaching role. We express our gratitude towards Sean and his staff for their contributions, wishing them success in their future endeavors. No further comments will be made at this time."

Upon his arrival at the City Ground, Dyche took over a team languishing in 18th place, struggling for consistency. He began with a 2-0 loss against Bournemouth, yet managed to guide the team to four victories and one draw in the subsequent seven fixtures, steering them out of the relegation zone.

Unfortunately, four straight losses followed, but Dyche's squad responded with an unbeaten streak of four matches, including a notable 2-1 victory over West Ham and a stalemate against league leaders Arsenal. However, their hopes of rising away from the relegation battle were diminished due to Leeds United's and West Ham's improved performances.

After the draw with Wolves, Dyche acknowledged the predicament he was facing and remarked, "The owner has treated me fairly, without a doubt. If a decision is made to change management, it is ultimately theirs to make. Football is unpredictable, and if the owner decides it's time to make changes, that is simply the nature of the sport. I realize the atmosphere has shifted significantly.

Dyche, who has a background with Forest as a former youth player, is known for his past managerial roles with Everton and Burnley, where he notably secured promotion to the Premier League twice and guided them into European competitions for the first time since 1967.

This season has been tumultuous for Nottingham Forest, who are also contending in the Europa League knockout stage against Turkish side Fenerbahce after finishing 13th in their group stage. The club has faced early exits from both domestic cups, losing in the EFL Cup to Swansea under Postecoglou and falling to Wrexham on penalties in the FA Cup during Dyche's tenure.

Despite a promising start, Dyche’s squad managed only two victories in their last ten league games, resulting in waning confidence from both the club's management and its supporters. While former players and analysts urged the club to remain patient, ex-England international Alan Shearer expressed on Match of the Day that his experience in the Premier League warranted support for Dyche. Former Tottenham midfielder Danny Murphy commented, "For this relegation scrap, I believe he is the right man. He has been there and done that, remaining composed under pressure. It would be unwise to dismiss him."

With the club entrenched in a relegation battle, Nottingham Forest now faces the crucial task of appointing a new manager. Having invested £180 million last season, they seek to regain their footing with European football returning to the City Ground for the first time since the 1995-96 campaign. Vitor Pereira, recognized for helping Wolves avoid relegation last season, has become the frontrunner to succeed Dyche.
