The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed sanctions on Nasarawa United and Rangers International for multiple violations of its Framework and Rules, specifically concerning crowd control and match-day security.

Following matches played on April 5, the league issued separate rulings against both clubs, citing a failure to provide adequate security and ensure proper conduct from supporters. These infractions were deemed to compromise the integrity of the competition.

Nasarawa United faced charges related to incidents during their home game against Kun Khalifat FC at the Lafia City Stadium. The NPFL determined that the club did not ensure sufficient and effective security, leading to unauthorised individuals entering restricted zones. Additionally, supporters were reported to have thrown dangerous objects at match officials as they proceeded to secure areas after the match.

The league also noted the club officials' unsporting behaviour, which it stated could tarnish the reputation of the sport, and a failure to manage their supporters effectively. This resulted in match officials being detained for approximately 20 minutes post-game.

Consequently, Nasarawa United has been fined a total of N4 million for failing to provide adequate security, the use of dangerous projectiles, unsporting conduct by officials, and inadequate supporter management. The club will also host its final two home games of the season without spectators.

Rangers International received similar penalties stemming from their home fixture against Barau FC at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu. The NPFL found that the club failed to guarantee appropriate and effective security, allowing unauthorised individuals access to restricted areas.

Furthermore, Rangers supporters engaged in misconduct, including harassment of match officials and encroaching onto the field of play. Club officials' actions were also criticised for potentially damaging the sport's image.

Rangers have been fined a total of N4 million for offences including security deficiencies, field encroachment, unsporting behaviour, and a lack of supporter control. Similar to Nasarawa United, they will play their remaining home matches behind closed doors.

Both clubs have a 48-hour window from the notification date to lodge any appeals. The NPFL reiterated its commitment to enforcing strict adherence to regulations governing security, fan behaviour, and match organisation.
