Dominic Frimpong, a footballer from Ghana, has been killed subsequent to an armed assault on the team bus belonging to Berekum Chelsea, which took place after a Ghana Premier League fixture.
The Ghana Football Association reported that the violent event transpired on Sunday. The team was en route back from an away game against FC Samartex 1996 in Samreboi when unidentified masked individuals obstructed the road and discharged firearms at the bus.
During the attack, players and team staff were compelled to evacuate the bus and seek refuge in the surrounding bushes for their safety. The perpetrators of the attack are still at large, and investigations into the matter are currently underway.
The GFA has conveyed its profound shock and deep sorrow over the incident, extending its sympathies to Frimpong's family and the wider football community. The association also stated that it is collaborating with law enforcement agencies and will undertake a review of the security protocols for teams traveling to and from matches across the nation.
Frimpong, who had joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC in January, had participated in 13 matches this season, scoring two goals. He was recognized as a promising young forward in Ghanaian football.
