Evang Chinedu Obigwe, who leads the APGA Media Warriors Forum, has voiced strong disapproval regarding an alleged confrontation involving Governor Charles Soludo and a group identifying as Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) members during a recent Town Hall meeting in London. This meeting was organized to brief the Anambra diaspora on Governor Soludo's development initiatives.
The gathering reportedly became contentious when the group voiced accusations against the governor, questioning his efforts to secure Nnamdi Kanu's release and alleging his involvement in attacks on youths.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Obigwe refuted these claims, asserting that many of those involved in the confrontation are in fact sponsors of the insecurity that Governor Soludo has been actively working to dismantle in Anambra State.
Obigwe's statement suggested that "criminal elements, who are posing as IPOB members," had previously subjected eight local government areas in Anambra to terror, causing residents to evacuate their homes.
"The APGA Media Warriors have taken note of reports stating that Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State was faced with opposition from individuals who presented themselves as members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)," the statement began.
"They alleged that the governor has not pursued the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and further accused him of instigating attacks and fatalities among youths in the region."
"In light of these events, it is crucial that we present the following points for the sake of clarity and brevity.
"At the commencement of Soludo’s tenure, he extended an amnesty program to criminal elements residing in forests, encouraging them to reintegrate and undergo rehabilitation.
"Soludo invited them to surrender their weapons and contribute to Anambra State's development; this initiative lasted for several months.
"Those who accepted the amnesty were reintegrated into society, and individuals who had been detained were granted bail.
"Moreover, Governor Charles Soludo personally visited Mazi Nnamdi Kanu at the DSS facility. During this visit, he characterized the Monday sit-at-home orders as unlawful and expressed his disapproval of the killings and kidnappings occurring in Igbo land.
"Despite these earnest and deliberate steps taken by the governor, these miscreants operating under the IPOB banner continued to hold eight local government areas of Anambra State under siege.
"This led to people fleeing their homes, and the economy of the entire South East was severely hampered by their actions.
"Consequently, in response to this pervasive lawlessness within the state, Governor Charles Soludo initiated and launched 'Operation Udo Ga Chi,' comprising the Agunechemba Security Squad and all service commands within the state, with the objective of ending the violence in Anambra State."
Obigwe further commented, "It is indeed deeply regrettable that certain individuals working behind the scenes and uninformed persons have chosen to protest the re-establishment of order, peace, security, and the rule of law in Anambra State.
"Most of these individuals, perceived as agitators, have not returned to the state for the past decade due to fears of kidnapping or assassination, and their relatives have consistently advised them against coming home.
"It is evident that those who confronted Soludo at the Town Hall meeting are the very ones financing the killings, arson, and insecurity in Anambra State, as they have effectively lost their investments in this violent and destructive venture.
"These hidden actors are, in reality, the true adversaries of Anambra and Ndigbo, given that they are protesting the peace and tranquility that our people are currently experiencing.
"We challenge them to return home to conduct a direct, on-the-ground assessment of the peace in Igbo land, rather than making unsubstantiated and false claims."
