Authorities in Ogun State have taken a man, identified as Oluwadamilare Ewedemi, into custody. He is facing allegations of engaging in prolonged sexual abuse of his own daughter and facilitating multiple illegal abortions for her.
The disturbing allegations surfaced when the 21-year-old victim, whose identity is being protected, lodged a complaint at the Ifo Division of the Nigeria Police Force. The abuse reportedly started in 2019 within the Ijebu Ode area.
According to the police, the survivor detailed a pattern of repeated sexual assault by her father, which led to five pregnancies. She claims her father compelled her to terminate each pregnancy.
The victim recounted that following the death of her mother when she was an infant, she was raised in a motherless home in Ikeja, Lagos. Her father later brought her to Ijebu Ode in 2019, ostensibly to provide care.
DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the suspect's arrest. He stated that the survivor managed to escape her father's residence on February 1, 2026, after enduring continuous abuse, and sought sanctuary at a church in the Pakoto area.
Babaseyi further noted that the case was officially reported on March 26, prompting immediate action from officers attached to the Ifo Division.
"During this period, she became pregnant five times, and her father reportedly procured abortion for each pregnancy," Babaseyi stated.
The police spokesperson added that the suspect was apprehended based on intelligence gathered by officers led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kamorudeen.
The suspect is currently being held in police custody. Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with the case transferred to the Gender Desk for thorough examination and eventual prosecution.
