The Ogun State Government has finalized the approval for a contract to build a new complex that will accommodate the Abeokuta Division of the Court of Appeal.

Oluwasina Ogungbade, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ogun State, announced that this decision came during a State Executive Council meeting held on Friday. The contract, worth ₦6,118,098,154.70, entails the establishment of the court complex on a 2.6-hectare site adjacent to the existing State Judiciary Complex in Olipakala Village, in the Kobape area of Abeokuta, along the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway.

This development signifies a crucial advancement in the State Government's ongoing commitment to improving access to justice and facilitating quick appellate proceedings for the residents of Ogun State. A review from the Ministry of Justice indicated that a substantial portion of appeals heard at the Ibadan Division of the Court of Appeal originate from Ogun State. The lack of a local division has historically increased the financial strain on both litigants and legal professionals, often resulting in delays in appeal resolutions.

The state has prepared for the opening of the Abeokuta Division by constructing six duplexes across 4,359 square meters in Ibara Housing GRA, which will serve as residences for the justices of this division. Additionally, twenty bungalows have been earmarked at the Prince Court Estate in Kobape for the support staff's accommodation.

In 2025, the State secured approval from the President of the Court of Appeal to initiate operations for the Abeokuta Division. This approval followed a special court session held in Abeokuta in May 2024, during which around ten panels convened and resolved over 150 appeals within three days.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Court of Appeal complex is expected to take place shortly, with construction projected to wrap up within a year. The Ogun State Ministry of Justice is dedicated to implementing reforms that promote equitable access to justice and enhance the efficacy of judicial services within the state.
