The Ondo State Police Command has announced the apprehension of two individuals suspected of cult-related activities in Ondo town, with a firearm also being recovered.
Operatives from the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, stationed in Akure, carried out the arrests on April 11, 2026, following reliable intelligence provided by the Ondo End Miscreant Group.
Initial police investigations suggest the arrested suspects are members of the Eiye and Aiye confraternities, groups known for involvement in violent incidents across the state.
Authorities have linked the suspects to a cult clash that occurred on April 9, 2026, at the Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo. This confrontation reportedly involved rival cult factions and disturbed public order.
Following their arrest, the suspects, identified as Nnamdi Sunday and Adegbuyi Seyi, reportedly assisted investigators. They led the police team to a location believed to be a hideout for the Aiye cult near Oka Garage in Ondo town.
A search conducted at the identified hideout resulted in the discovery of a locally made pistol, which is suspected to have been used in criminal activities.
The police have stated that the apprehended individuals will remain in custody while further investigations proceed to identify and apprehend other fleeing gang members and to recover any additional weapons.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, reiterated the command's unwavering commitment to eradicating cultism and all forms of criminal behaviour within the state, vowing that perpetrators will face legal consequences.
He acknowledged the timely intelligence provided by the Ondo End Miscreant Group and encouraged residents to maintain vigilance and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information.
Commissioner Lawal also expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji lDisu, for his continuous support and leadership, which he noted have bolstered the command’s operational capabilities.
The command reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring the safety of lives and property and urged the public to promptly report any suspicious activities they observe.
