The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two individuals suspected of providing logistical support to a kidnapping syndicate.
The police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, announced on Monday, March 16, 2026, that the suspects, identified as Alhassan Muhammad and Faruq Muhammad Sanni, are connected to the criminal group that has been terrorizing the Ilu- Abo community and its surroundings.
According to the Public Relations Officer, the arrests took place on March 15, 2026, following credible information received from a member of the Ilu-Abo community, which led to swift police action.
The information revealed that one of the suspects, who operates a motorcycle as a commercial service, was allegedly assisting kidnappers in the area by procuring and delivering food and supplies to their hiding locations.
“The Ondo State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Adebowale Lawal Psc(+), mnips, has made significant progress in our ongoing battle against kidnapping and violent crime in the state with these arrests,” the statement noted.
Both suspects, Alhassan, aged 20, and 25-year-old Faruq, also residents of Sabon-Sango in Akure, were apprehended as the police Anti-Kidnapping Squad acted on the gathered intelligence.
“The operation resulted in the successful capture of the suspects, while other members of the syndicate fled the scene upon realizing police presence,” the spokesperson added.
Initial investigations suggest that these individuals played crucial roles in supporting the kidnappers’ activities in the forest areas around Ilu-Abo and neighboring towns.
The suspects are currently in police custody and are providing valuable information that is aiding in further investigations and the location of other gang members who have escaped.
The police command has intensified its efforts to locate and arrest any remaining suspects and dismantle the entire kidnapping network operational in the region.
Once the investigation is finalized, the arrested individuals will be charged in court.
Moreover, the Ondo State Police Command praised the vigilance and cooperation of the Ilu-Abo community, emphasizing that their timely and credible information was vital to the successful operation.
The Commissioner of Police also expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, PSC(+), NPM, acknowledging his continuous support and guidance, which have significantly contributed to the recent operational successes of the Command.
