A woman in Georgia has been charged with multiple offenses after authorities claim six children were left unsupervised at home for extended periods, an incident that tragically resulted in the demise of one child.

Sherry Magby, 37, has been arrested and charged with six counts of second- degree cruelty to children, according to arrest warrants and state officials.

Investigators revealed that five children, all under the age of eight, were reportedly left in the care of their 10-year-old sibling for a duration of 12 hours. During this time, the children allegedly lacked adequate food and were subjected to unsuitable living conditions.

Arrest warrants further detailed that the residence exhibited a strong, unpleasant odor indicative of unsanitary living circumstances, with all rooms in a state of disarray.

Authorities noted that one of the children, identified as a one-year-old, was found consuming insects like roaches and ants due to a severe lack of food within the home.

At the time of the initial report, Magby's precise relationship to the children was not immediately clear.

On Thursday, April 9, a spokesperson for the Georgia Department of Human Services confirmed the death of one of the children from the residence.

"We are devastated over the loss of this child and extend our deepest condolences to their loved ones. We will continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement as they conduct their investigation," the spokesperson stated.

In a separate, developing legal matter, Magby is scheduled for a trial next month concerning a prior child cruelty charge. In that case, she is accused of inflicting a cut on a child's back as the child attempted to escape her.
