Peaceland University in Enugu has commended its software engineering student, Godspower Ojini, for securing a N2.7 million award at the recent Enugu State Tech Festival.

The festival, hosted from February 24 to 27, showcased youth innovation across the state, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria.

Mr. Ojini, an 18-year-old in his third year, emerged victorious alongside his team by creating a cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform aimed at streamlining various tasks for individuals and businesses.

Their project distinguished itself among numerous submissions.

During a ceremony held in Enugu on Wednesday, Vice-Chancellor Leonard Ilechukwu expressed his pride in the student’s accomplishment, labeling it a “validation” of the institution’s quality of education.

“We experience immense pride, as this reflects our commitment and excellence in service,” he stated.

Ilechukwu further emphasized that this achievement was indicative of the proactive training and dedication delivered to the students.

“While we applaud the student’s success, we also recognize our role in facilitating his progress. His achievement is a shared victory for both him and the university,” he remarked.

He described the accomplishment as both motivation and a challenge for the institution, encouraging other students to follow Mr. Ojini’s model of hard work and determination.

Felix Ugwuozor, the university’s Pro-Chancellor, stated that the win was anticipated, highlighting that Mr. Ojini had previously received the same honor.

“I am quite impressed, though not surprised. This is the second occasion our student has won this prize. He’s diligent and understands his direction,” he remarked.

Ugwuozor added that the university focuses on practical skills and equips its students to face global challenges, providing the necessary resources to promote innovation.

In his speech, Mr. Ojini credited his success to hard work, guidance, and constant self-improvement, noting that his AI solution efficiently manages an extensive variety of tasks.

“The dedication of our lecturers fueled my inspiration, and I consistently aim to excel and take advantage of opportunities,” he noted, also mentioning his commitment to personal growth through reading and online learning.

He revealed plans to expand the project, aiming to develop it into a product with global accessibility.

“We aspire to create something usable beyond Nigeria’s borders,” he stated.

Mr. Ojini acknowledged the supportive environment provided by the university, highlighting how accessibility to facilities and flexibility during the development phase contributed to his success.

He advised peers, saying, “Continue to create, share your projects, connect with others, and never give up.”
