A pedestrian was fatally struck by a Mercedes-Benz C-300 in a hit-and-run incident that took place at the NYSC Bus Stop, Igando, Lagos State. The vehicle's driver did not stop at the scene of the accident.
The deceased, identified as a member of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, was reportedly on her way to a worship service in Igando on Saturday, February 14, 2026, when the fatal collision occurred.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement, detailing their response to distress calls.
"Upon receiving distress alerts, LASTMA personnel stationed along the Igando axis responded with commendable alacrity and operational proficiency," the statement indicated.
"Demonstrating tactical coordination and adherence to established emergency response protocols, the officers promptly cordoned off the accident scene to forestall secondary collisions and ensure the safety of other road users."
LASTMA further reported that the driver of the vehicle absconded from the scene immediately after the incident.
"In a deeply reprehensible development, the driver of the Mercedes-Benz C-300 absconded from the scene upon recognising the fatal outcome of the collision," the agency stated.
"This act of flight not only compounds the gravity of the tragedy but also constitutes a flagrant violation of statutory and civic obligations incumbent upon motorists involved in traffic incidents."
Operatives from LASTMA, in collaboration with officers from the Nigeria Police Force, Igando Division, subsequently removed the vehicle from the road. Police have initiated an investigation to locate and apprehend the driver responsible.
Mr. Olajide Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, conveyed his sympathies to the victim's family and the MFM Church community, calling the event a tragedy.
He reiterated the agency's dedication to ensuring traffic discipline and protecting lives, urging all drivers to maintain heightened vigilance, strictly observe speed limits, and consistently show respect for pedestrians' rights.
