Plateau University, located in Bokkos, has taken disciplinary action against 76 students for their participation in examination malpractice.
This information was shared in a statement released on Tuesday in Jos by the institution's Acting Public Relations Officer, Mr. Masara Kim.
According to Kim, the decision to sanction the students was made during the 102nd regular meeting of the Senate, which was chaired by the Deputy Vice- Chancellor for Academics, Prof. Moses Galadima.
Kim explained that the resolution followed a report presented by the Senate Committee on Examination Misconduct, highlighting the findings regarding the conduct of the students.
He stated that these students were involved in examination offenses during the second semester exams of the 2024/2025 academic year.
"The committee investigated the cases of 76 students who were caught during the second semester examinations for the 2024/2025 academic session," he said.
The reported offences included bringing mobile phones into examination halls, possessing written notes, and having inscriptions on their bodies related to examination questions.
After thorough discussions, the Senate approved penalties that align with the regulations set forth in the students' handbook.
"The sanctions range from rustication for one academic session and mandatory carryover of affected courses to expulsion in severe cases," he added.
Kim reiterated the university's firm stance against examination malpractice, stating that management is committed to upholding academic integrity.
Furthermore, he noted that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shedrach Best, has consistently stressed the importance of integrity, discipline, and ethical values within the university community.
