The Ondo State Police Command has taken into custody a prominent cult leader, Akinwale Tomiwa, commonly known as Bella, on charges of murder.

DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command's spokesperson, revealed in a statement on March 15, 2026, that early investigations have connected the suspect to the killing of Ojo Peter, a student at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in Owo.

"The Ondo State Police Command, under the direction of CP Adebowale Lawal Psc(+), mnips, has achieved a significant milestone in its ongoing battle against cult-related violence throughout the state with the apprehension of a suspected cult leader on the Command's watchlist linked to a murder case and other violent acts," the statement explained.

"The arrest was made after reliable information indicated that the suspect was seen near NEPA Junction in Akure. Quick action by the operatives led to his successful capture without any resistance.

"Initial probes have associated the suspect with the murder of Ojo Peter, which transpired on December 12, 2025, in Owo. This incident previously raised alarm within the community and is thought to be linked to rivalries between cult groups.

"Further intelligence suggested that the suspect had recently appeared on a cult-themed social media platform called Naija Confra, allegedly for partaking in an assault on potential members of the Aiye Confraternity on Fasawe Street in Owo. This attack was reportedly part of an ongoing struggle for dominance between competing cult factions in the area.

"During the arrest, a search of the suspect revealed the discovery of multiple items, believed to be criminal charms used for protection and intimidation during cult activities.

"The suspect faces six charges in court, including murder and various offenses. Additionally, efforts are underway to identify and capture other members involved in the syndicate connected to him.

"The Command has reaffirmed its unwavering stance against cultism and other violent offenses, assuring residents that it will perpetually enhance intelligence-driven operations to dismantle criminal networks that threaten public safety throughout the state.
