The Police Service Commission (PSC), in conjunction with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has decided to prolong the recruitment process for 50,000 police constables by an additional two weeks across the nation.

The period for submitting applications, which was originally set to conclude on January 25, 2026, has been rescheduled to February 8, 2026.

In an official statement released on Monday, Torty Njoku Kalu, who heads the Protocol and Public Affairs department at the PSC, affirmed the extension. He indicated that the recruitment portal, launched on December 15, 2025, will continue to accept applications from eligible Nigerians until the new stipulated closing date.

According to the Commission, this extension was prompted by the substantial volume of over 400,000 applications received nationwide. Furthermore, an internal assessment highlighted significant differences in the number of applications submitted by various states.

While states such as Adamawa, Benue, and Kaduna saw a high rate of applicant engagement, other states, including Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Anambra, recorded considerably fewer applications.

The PSC and the NPF stated that the extension was granted to foster equitable representation and guarantee that no state is underrepresented in the current recruitment drive for police constables.

"Given this situation, all qualified Nigerians, particularly those residing in states with lower application rates, are strongly urged to complete and submit their applications via the official recruitment portal before the revised deadline," the statement urged.

The Commission also issued an appeal to state governments, local government councils, socio-cultural groups, religious organizations, and community leaders to encourage and inform eligible young individuals within their respective areas to participate in this exercise.

The PSC and NPF reiterated their dedication to maintaining a fair, transparent, and inclusive recruitment process. They emphasized that the extension is intended to provide every qualified Nigerian with an equal chance to join the Nigeria Police Force.
