The Nigerian Police apprehended Tajudeen Baruwa on Monday, March 23, following his leadership of a faction that overtook the national headquarters of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
The arrest was executed mere hours after Baruwa and his supporters invaded the union’s office in Abuja, aiming to displace the faction led by Musiliu Akinsanya.
Initial reports suggested that Baruwa's group captured the national secretariat in the early hours of Monday through a dramatic intrusion into the building.
Tensions between the NURTW factions, led by Baruwa and MC Oluomo, have persisted since 2024, centered around a leadership dispute.
In November 2024, MC Oluomo was elected as the National President by union members. However, the conflict escalated to legal proceedings, where a court ultimately favored Baruwa, intensifying the rivalry between the factions.
