The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested two individuals believed to be associated with an armed robbery gang linked to the murder of a security guard and the theft of valuables in a violent incident that took place in Asokoro, Abuja.
According to information provided by the command's Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the arrests were made after a report was filed regarding a robbery that occurred at a residence in Asokoro in January 2026, during which a security guard was killed and cash, a vehicle, and other items were stolen.
SP Adeh stated that operatives from the FCT Police Command Scorpion Squad conducted an intelligence-driven operation that resulted in the capture of the two primary suspects, identified as Amaechi Edemba, aged 46, and Kelechi Nwokoro, aged 48, on dates ranging from February 12 to 19, 2026.
Investigations revealed that Nwokoro, who had been hired as a security guard by the victim, was terminated from his job in January 2026 due to negligence. Further inquiries indicated that he allegedly collaborated with Edemba and enlisted the help of four additional accomplices from Nasarawa State to execute the robbery.
According to the police, Nwokoro used his previous experience at the site to turn off the CCTV surveillance and cut off the electricity supply before leading the armed gang into the home. During the raid, the suspects confronted the active security guard, Ishaku Marcus, overpowering him and ultimately strangling him before fleeing with cash, jewelry, laptops, wrappers, and a silver Toyota Camry among other stolen items.
SP Adeh noted that the stolen vehicle, along with other evidence, has been recovered, and efforts are underway to capture the remaining suspects who are still at large.
The Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, praised the law enforcement personnel for their diligence and professionalism, and encouraged community members to conduct background checks on domestic workers with the police prior to hiring them.
He also urged the public to maintain vigilance and quickly report any suspicious activities via the Command’s emergency contact numbers: 08032003913 and 080289408830.
