Law enforcement officials in Delta State have arrested 34 suspected internet fraudsters following a raid on what is believed to be a cybercrime operation in Opete. The operation was initiated after a distress call revealed a hostage situation linked to the fraud activities.

In a significant operation, police in Delta State have apprehended 34 individuals suspected of involvement in internet fraud after conducting a raid in Opete, which was identified as a site for cybercriminal activities.

The Delta State police command's spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed that the raid followed a tip-off from a distressed caller. The caller reported that her younger sibling had sent a message indicating he was being held captive and being coerced into participating in cybercrime.

SP Edafe highlighted that the raid revealed an organized network of young individuals who were operating from a residential apartment repurposed as a cybercrime center. All 34 suspects were taken into custody at the location.

During the operation, a considerable amount of equipment was confiscated, including 37 laptops, a single iPad, seven mobile phones, and a calabash believed to contain charms, which underscores the scale and organized nature of the illicit activities. Investigations are ongoing to fully expose the extent of their operations.
