Portugal has expressed intentions to organize a friendly match against Nigeria’s Super Eagles, according to recent reports.
The encounter is slated for Saturday, June 6, with Lisbon set to be the venue for the clash. Both the football federations of Portugal and Nigeria have reached a preliminary agreement for the friendly, with pending details to be finalized soon.
Despite the Super Eagles not qualifying for the upcoming 2026 World Cup, their commendable performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco has made them a desirable opponent for teams preparing for the World Cup.
This friendly match will act as a vital preparation game for Portugal ahead of the tournament, while Nigeria will utilize the opportunity to gear up for the qualifiers of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The last meeting between the two teams was in a friendly match in November 2022, where Portugal secured a convincing 4–0 victory. Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes scored two goals, alongside contributions from Gonçalo Ramos and João Mário, who each found the net once.
