Posters advocating for the prominent security analyst, Audu Bulama Bukarti, have inundated various locations in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

These posters display Bukarti's image alongside that of the current Governor, Mai Mala Buni, and began appearing on public buildings and streetlight columns this week.

Reports indicate that some of these posters are sponsored by a group known as Seventeen Local Governments for Mai Mala Buni (17 MMB), with sightings along Maiduguri Road, Potiskum Road, and in Gujba.

Daily Trust has observed that influential figures on social media have recently urged Bukarti to run for the governorship position in the upcoming 2027 elections.

One local influencer, Maikudi Gashua, expressed that it would be a significant loss for Yobe if it does not capitalize on Bukarti's experience and insights.

However, Bukarti has not officially announced any intention regarding the posters.

Concern has emerged from Professor Shareef Almuhajir, the Managing Director of Yobe State Microfinance Bank and an associate of Governor Buni. He pointed out that Bukarti is not affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and thus his candidacy cannot be associated with the party's agenda.

Bukarti originates from Karasuwa Local Government Area in northern Yobe State, which has not seen a governor or deputy governor since Nigeria returned to democratic governance in 1999.

Notably, other contenders from this region eyeing the governorship seat include former Senate President Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan, the Secretary to the State Government Baba Malam Wali, and Hon. Jibrin Maigari, the Federal Character Commissioner for Yobe State.
