President Bola Tinubu has urged the leadership of the 10th Senate to consider amending the Nigerian constitution to create a legal foundation for the establishment of State Police forces nationwide. The President conveyed this appeal on Wednesday during an interfaith breakfast engagement with senators held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

According to President Tinubu, the creation of State Police is now a critical necessity to effectively combat the nation's escalating security challenges. He highlighted its importance in reinforcing policing at the community level and empowering states to respond more rapidly to emerging threats within their borders.

He further explained that a decentralized policing system would serve as a vital supplement to the existing federal security framework, fostering intelligence-driven and community-oriented law enforcement strategies.

"We are confronting terrorism, banditry, and insurgency. However, we will persistently seek the appropriate response to this challenge. My request to you tonight is to begin contemplating how best to amend the constitution to include State Police, enabling us to secure our nation, reclaim our forests from marauders, and liberate our children from fear," President Tinubu stated.

"I give significant credit for these bold reforms to your collaboration and inspiration; without them, these reforms would not have been possible. We are united as reformers. The monumental corruption within the subsidy system, which we have eliminated, and the foreign exchange arbitrage we have stopped, are significant achievements. We are committed to avoiding participation in such large-scale corruption.

"You do not need to pursue me for dollars; you can observe Nigeria's current state. You should be proud, and I am pleased that you are. We are currently experiencing a stable economy, and prosperity is within reach. We must work diligently, and your presence here signifies a great deal to me," the President remarked.

In response, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, expressed his appreciation to the President for hosting the Senate leadership for the interfaith breaking of fast.
