The 10 Degrees Events Centre in Oregun, Lagos transformed into a scene of glamour and inspiration as
Princess Joy Esamah hosted a celebration blending her 50th birthday, the 19th anniversary of the esteemed
Effizzie Magazine, and the official unveiling of her eagerly awaited book,
Beauty Beyond Brokenness.
This event saw a gathering of social luminaries, featuring industry leaders, celebrities, and socialites, who dazzled in an assortment of traditional and modern attire, reflecting the elegant atmosphere of the venue. The Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture,
Toke Benson-Awoyinka, attended on behalf of the state, joining family, friends, and alumni to pay tribute to a woman widely regarded as a “legacy builder.”
In her speech to the audience,
Princess Esamah expressed heartfelt gratitude as she acknowledged her milestone birthday.
“Today we celebrate life, we celebrate story, we celebrate vision, and we celebrate God’s faithfulness,” she shared. “Fifty years has imparted one vital lesson: Impact comes not from evading storms, but from enduring them. I have experienced applause and silence, favor and misunderstanding; yet through it all, I found my voice.”
The highlight of the evening was the debut of her book,
Beauty Beyond Brokenness. In sharing her motivation for writing this piece,
Esamah elaborated on its significance beyond mere words on pages.
“This work represents more than just ink on paper; it chronicles a journey of adversity and truth. It is meant for every woman who has been told she is done for, to answer those who question if beauty can arise from despair. This book speaks affirmatively about how brokenness serves as a foundation for beauty,” she articulated.
She emphasized that her aim with this book is to "heal, awaken, and empower future generations."
The occasion also celebrated the resilience of the media sector as
Effizzie Magazine commemorated 19 years of consistent publication.
Princess Esamah highlighted the magazine’s important role in showcasing African stories and advancing women’s empowerment.
“Effizzie has withstood transitions, trends, and challenges, not due to ease, but necessity. Today, I stand proud to declare that Effizzie Magazine is not just a periodical; it’s a legacy brand, a cultural reflection, and a beacon of empowerment,” she noted, concluding with gratitude to God, whom she referred to as the “author and finisher” of her faith.
The celebration was rich with diverse culinary offerings from both local and international cuisines, complemented by music and dance as guests raised their glasses to toast to the author’s remarkable legacy. Attendees commended the dual nature of the event, successfully blending the vibrancy of a golden jubilee with the profound, introspective essence of a book poised to redefine discussion around female resilience in Africa.
